16-year-old boy killed in violent multi-vehicle crash in Porter Ranch; 9 others seriously injured

PORTER RANCH, LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- A 16-year-old boy was killed and nine others were seriously injured in a violent multi-vehicle crash Saturday in Porter Ranch, authorities said.

The collision occurred at 11001 N. Reseda Blvd. at around 5:30 p.m.

Police told Eyewitness News five patients in one vehicle were mainly teens or young adults.

They said the driver of that car was heading southbound on Reseda Boulevard when it crossed the center line and slammed into two other vehicles and several parked cars.

The 16-year-old boy was in that car and was "badly trapped in the wreckage."

"Despite the efforts of LAFD responders, that teenager sadly proved beyond medical help and he was determined deceased at the scene," said LAFD in an update.

Authorities initially said he was 17 years old, but the coroner's office later identified him as Magnus Robinson, 16.

Though the cause of the crash remains under investigation, police say speed played a role.

"We believe the driver is 20 years old," said LAPD Lt. Matt Bielski. "Everybody else was 17 and under from what we understand. The other drivers, we know that the second vehicle was a male and he had two children in that car."

The conditions of the children, or their ages, were not immediately known. Meanwhile, a 30-year-old woman was in the third vehicle. She was also rushed to the hospital.

As of 10 p.m. Saturday, Reseda Boulevard remained closed in both directions between San Fernando Mission Boulevard and Chatsworth Street.
